Essential Updates in Dental Hygiene: Waterline Safety and Infection Control

The waterline safety portion of this course will review best practices and Georgia State Board of Dentistry regulations for dental unit water quality. Learners will review testing protocols, maintenance procedures, documentation requirements, and more.

The infection control portion of this course will introduce to you the infection control principles and best practices pertaining to sterilization and disinfection of patient care items, in accordance with the CDC guidelines. You will learn strategies to assist you in maximizing the safety and efficiency of instrument processing.

The session will cover the following learning objectives:
  • Explain key infection control principles and practices recommended by the CDC that maximize efficiency and safety
  • Describe acceptable instrument cleaning and decontamination methods
  • Differentiate the types and processes of chemical and biological sterilization monitoring
  • Explain the importance of maintaining regular and accurate documentation of all infection control practices

Caitlin Denison graduated from the University of South Florida with a Bachelor's of Science in Biology in 2017. Shortly after graduation, she moved to Chattanooga, TN where she began working as a Tennessee OSHA Compliance Officer. In this role, she gained invaluable insight into the inspection process and OSHA standards. In 2021, she returned to school to earn her A.A.S. in Dental Hygiene and began working as a clinical RDH. Caitlin enjoys combining her unique blend of dental hygiene and compliance experience to help offices achieve compliance. 

In her free time, Caitlin and her husband enjoy hiking, gravel biking, and rock climbing with their dogs Luna and Rocky. 

Kari Clark, RDH, BSDH

Kari Clark is a Registered Dental Hygienist and a HuFriedyGroup Clinical Education Manager with over 18 years of experience in clinical practice, dental education, and industry leadership. A graduate with honors from the University of Tennessee, Kari is known for her expertise in preventative care, periodontal therapy, and hands-on clinical training. She has delivered impactful education on topics such as infection control, power instrumentation, and dental waterline maintenance, while also supporting dental and dental hygiene schools in developing customized student kits.

Kari’s dedication to advancing dental education and supporting clinical excellence has earned her multiple honors, including four consecutive "Over Achiever" awards from HuFriedyGroup, the title of Clinical Education Manager of the Year (2022), and the prestigious “Legacy of Excellence” award (2025) for her outstanding contributions within her territory.
